Growing Citrus in pots:
Spring is a wonderful time to plant citrus trees, and for those with small gardens or only just a sunny balcony or courtyard, there are all your favourite citrus varieties generally readily available on a dwarfing rootstock called flying dragon. This rootstock ensures that the grafted variety on top of the graft stays more compact in its growth habit.
Whether it be Tahitian Lime, Meyer Lemon, Washington Navel or my favourite the Lemonade tree, look for the ‘I’m a dwarf tree’ tag and you’re good to grow!
How to grow Citrus:
- Full sun location
- Coco Pro Professional Potting Mix
- Pot – appropriately sized pot. (400mm – 500mm pot eventually for a mature tree depending on what size tree you have started with)
- Fertiliser – liquid seaweed every 2-4 weeks. ActivGrow Fertiliser Pallets every 4-6 weeks.
- Regular water, especially during summer and dry spells. When watering, do so until it runs out of the drainage holes. This way you know it has been thoroughly watered right to the centre of the root ball.
