Styling with Pots_Blog

A collection of different-sized pots or containers, in different designs, colours and or textures, with a variety of plants, is a unique way to add a personal touch to your outdoor space. Whether you have a balcony, terrace, rooftop or garden, a cluster of pots can be tailored to suit your own style and add that extra special touch.

The great thing about creating a cluster of different plants is that you have the flexibility to change the design. Plants, angles, position and pot design can easily be adjusted as and where needed. Gardening in pots and containers is a great alternative for those of us who don’t have a yard, lawn or garden bed.

When it comes to growing plants in pots there are a few tips to success no matter what you’ve chosen to grow.

  • Pots and plants like company. Creating nests of pots and plant combos will provide what we call a microclimate. Here there is more humidity and protection from possible drying factors such as wind natural or artificial.
  • Drainage; ensure that there are adequate drainage holes in pots chosen so that when watered the water can freely drain out of the pot.
  • Grouping of plants that have similar light needs; full sun, semi-shade, full shade. Remember right plant, right place!
  • Good quality Rocky Point potting mix is a must.
  • Fertilising will need to continue, as the slow-release fertilisers in your potting mix start to finish.

Creating a Nature-Inspired Nest of pots

Visual balance is key when picking pots for your home and can be achieved by clustering an odd number of pots in various sizes.

When it comes to which potting mix to choose this will depend on plant species being grown; succulents, indoor plants, natives or edibles.
Rocky Point has you covered by having a complete range of potting mixes to suit every plant and situation you could possibly think of.
